Weve been in our home for almost three years now, and I love it!
The only downfall is that it doesnt have a lot of storage and its really hard to figure out how to organize your home when there isnt a lot of storage space.
Our previous home had huge closets, cabinets, and storage galore. It even had a basement. This housedoesnt have those things.

Storage Ideas for Small Spaces
In a way, our lack of storage has been a good thing. Its motivated us to get rid of stuff we didnt need and really evaluate whether or not we have space before making a new purchase.
But sometimes, its just a bummer.
So, weve gotten creative, and invested in some renter-friendly storage options. One of our first storage-related projects was the storage cubes we have in our family room.
Next to our fireplace, and TV, theres a little nook that was probably meant for a custom-built cabinet. Luckily, this storage cube shelf fit right in the space. We bought this storage unit from Costco (similar ones here).
My husband built a little white stand underneath it so it matches with the trim in our house. Very crafty of him, right?!
I picked up some matching storage cubes from Wal-Mart (similar cubes here), and started storing all of the random things we normally have in our family room.
These storage cubes house things like DVDs, building toys, a laptop and its charger, magazines, extra blankets, and even a heating pad!
We cut the sides of one of the storage bins so we could keep our DVD player in one of the cubes, and still have a unified decorative basket look. I love that we dont see the cords, and we can open up the space as needed.
The cubes slide out like drawers, so theyre easy to access. The kids can pull out their building toy basket and put it on the floor while they play. When theyre done, they pick up the toys and put the basket back on the shelf (after friendly reminders, of course).
One of the best things about this storage solution is that its super versatile. Well be able to take it with us to our next home, and use it in a totally different space if needed.
