Red White and Blue: Our Patriotic Home Decor

INSIDE: Take a tour of our historic farmhouse decked out with loads of primitive charm and patriotic home decor!

One of my favorite things about our home is all the patriotic decor I use inside and out.

I guess I’ve always been somewhat fascinated with the history of our country. Over the years, I’ve regularly consumed so many stories, books, movies, and documentaries (fiction and non-fiction) and truly, I can’t think of one I didn’t love.

There’s just something super nostalgic for me about decorating our 130-year-old farmhouse in primitive patriotic decor.

Honestly, I think the patriotic bunting on the front porch was one of the things that instantly drew my attention to our home when I first saw it listed on the sales page back in 2010.

Even though it needed SO much work on the inside (and way out of our budget), I just couldn’t get the charming patriotic porch out of my mind. I knew we had to take a tour!

As many of you know, we ended up getting an excellent deal on the home roughly 3 months after our original offer was turned down. This allowed us to purchase the home, pay cash for all our renovations, and pay off our mortgage 24 years early!

Over the last (almost) 10 years, I’ve had so much fun infusing our home with my own personal style (frugal farmhouse decor, handmade treasures, primitive finds, and a whole lot of red white and blue!)

There really isn’t any rhyme or reason to why I choose specific pieces (mostly just what I find at thrift stores or what I’m able to make myself) but I personally really like how things have evolved over the years, and how our home continues to serve our family’s needs.

Since we’re coming up on a patriotic holiday, and since we most likely won’t be doing anything special to celebrate (no parades, no big parties, etc.) I figured I’d share a little patriotism on the blog instead!

NOTE: I’ve included old and new photos — so you’ll notice that furniture is constantly moving around… and in many cases, complete rooms have swapped. I just like to keep you on your toes! 🙂

I know the upcoming patriotic holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and even Labor Day) might look very different for many of us this year. But I hope they will still be enjoyable for you and your family.

To wrap things up, let’s take a look at how much the kids have changed over the years!
