The Perfect Homemade Edible Easter Basket For Peeps Fans

This project has been one of my all-time favorite holiday crafts since I first attempted it several years ago. Not only does the final product look adorable, but it’s also really fun to make! And I also like the idea of an “edible” basket for Easter for practical reasons. Wicker and wooden Easter baskets are cute, but take up storage space, while this Easter basket alternative will get dismantled and eaten.

But the best reason to make one or two (or four) of these edible Easter crafts is because you’ll have a rock-solid excuse to buy a bunch of Peeps! Easter and Peeps go hand in hand, so you have to take advantage of the season while it lasts.

Alright, enough chit-chat. This basket comes together in three simple steps, starting with the base.

How To Make A DIY Peeps Easter Basket

For each basket, you’ll need:

Directions:

Step 1: Arrange the boxes of Peeps on their sides to form a square

Step 1 – Make The Base

Arrange the boxes of Peeps on their sides to form a square, as shown above. Secure the boxes in place using several glue dots or several pieces of clear packing tape.

Step 2: apply spray adhesive to the outer edges of the chipboard or scrapbook paper

Next, apply spray adhesive to the outer edges of the chipboard or scrapbook paper. Let the adhesive dry briefly until it feels tacky, then firmly press the Peeps square onto the paper.

step 3: use scissors to trim off the excess paper away to finish the base of the basket

When the adhesive dries, use scissors to trim off the excess paper away to finish the base of the basket. Then you’ll be ready to move on to the handle!

step 4: Measure and cut six 1

Directions:

Measure and cut six 1″ strips from your 12″ x 12″ sheet of paper.

step 5: Place two of the strips end-to-end and secure them with tape to form one long strip.

Place two of the strips end-to-end and secure them with tape to form one long strip. Do this twice more until you have three 24″ strips.

step 6: lay out one of the paper strips horizontally on a flat surface. Arrange the other two strips vertically, and lay them right next to each other at the right end of the horizontal strip. Secure the 3 strips together at the top with a binder clip. Pick up the strip furthest to the right and fold it over to the left — it should end up parallel to the horizontal strip. Then pick up the top horizontal strip and fold it down — it should end up parallel to the vertical strip.

Step 3 – Attach The Handle

Use packing tape to secure the braided handle to either side of the Peeps basket. Finally, you’ll make a couple of bows to put the finishing touches on your basket!

step 10: Print the bow template onto your paper of choice, then use your scissors to cut out the shapes along the lines.

Step 4 – Make And Attach Paper Bows

You’ll need:

Directions:

Print the bow template onto your paper of choice, then use your scissors to cut out the shapes along the lines.

Step 11: Take one of the long pieces (marked A on the template), and place a glue dot or dab of craft glue on the left edge, the right edge, and the center. Fold the edges over to meet in the center, and stick them down to form a bow shape.

Next, use a glue dot to stick the center of the bow to the center of the shorter piece (piece B on the template).

Finally, take the small rectangle (piece C) and stick it to top of the bow. Fold the edges around the center of the bow and tape them in place on the back. Repeat each step to complete the second bow.
